Fazakerley Wind Turbine

Liverpool

Regeneco and United Utilities

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening

White Peak Planning secured planning permission, on behalf of Regeneco and United Utilities, for a wind turbine of up to 78m tip height at the Fazakerley Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW), Liverpool.

The purpose of the wind turbine is to provide renewable energy to the WwTW, thereby reducing United Utilities’ Carbon Dioxide emissions as part of its wider Carbon Mitigation Action Plan.

The wind turbine was the first wind turbine in a residential area in Liverpool, and we worked closely with Regeneco, the technical project team and Officers at Liverpool City Council (LCC) throughout the application process.

Comprehensive technical studies and assessments were undertaken in support of the application, and we assisted the client through a critical review of the technical reports, in particular the proposed mitigation measures.

During determination of the application, we worked closely with the technical team to resolve several issues raised by consultees and agree an appropriate balance between optimal operation of the wind turbine and reducing the likely effects on the local environment.

We were subsequently retained by Regeneco and United Utilities to prepare a planning application for two wind turbines at another WwTW site, which were also approved, built and now operational.
